Ildiko’s childhood home ‘town’. It is Hungary’s oldest and 10th largest city. The name Szombathely is from the Hungarian word ‘szombat’, (meaning ‘Saturday’) and ‘hely’, (meaning ‘place’). It’s the birthplace of St, Martin of Tours (France) and the birthplace of Irish author James Joyce’s fictional character Virág Rudolf, the father of Leopold Bloom, the Jewish Irish protagonist in his book… Ulysses.
